Nowadays, digital cameras have become extremely cheap and an average person can easily afford a professional digital camera which a few years ago was considered only a dream. Most professional digital cameras or D-SLRs can generate image files in two formats, RAW and JPEG. The first format is considered to be lossless, as it doesn't compress the pixels like it's the case with JPEG. Unfortunately, the problem with the RAW format is that it requires a specialized application in order to be read or edited. One of these applications is RawTherapee.

This simple Windows program allows you to read any RAW image format and edit it in any way possible. The installation process of this application can be completed without much effort, as it only requires a few clicks for completing this process. The program can run on almost any Windows version and there is also a special version for Linux.

After installing and running the application, the user will be presented with a simple and intuitive interface which allows him to easily add RAW images into the program, having an interface similar to Windows Explorer, but with many more features. After adding the desired RAW image into the program's interface, the user will be able to easily modify numerous characteristics regarding it, like the brightness, contrast, exposure and so on. In this way, one will be able to correct any mistake which was caused by bad camera settings or poor light conditions. After the settings have been made, the user can easily save the modified image into a large number of graphical formats, like JPEG, BMP and so on, each having its own quality settings.

For helping the user adjust settings in a more efficient way, there is a live histogram displayed in the program's interface, which modifies according to the user's settings.
